yea I know but dont need to push it to hard for todays games moving up to 5ghz only gives me small gains on 3dmark and alot more heat I have pushed it to 5.34 but I dont leave it that high cost to much to burn would like to get some life out of this one:cool:

You may wonder why I'm using that keyboard. It's simple. I have worn most of them out by playing UT99 too much. The w a s d keys don't work, shift don't work, and enter button sticks. So I'm on my last keyboard which came with my first PC ever which was Windows 3.1.

2x Raptor 80 GB ES (Old drives, never retail)

Can't really think of what else.

Overall I get max frames in everything besides Crysis, and the more important thing is I didn't need to pay for this stuff.

My last one (blew it up a few months ago)

Manufacturer: This was put together out of junk parts
256 MB DIMM RAM
Intel Pentium III (cartridge style) RESTRICTED to 450 MHz due to dated motherboard
4MB ATI RAGE PRO TURBO AGP
Generic ISA Sound Card (told you this thing was anctient)
8 GB Hard Drive
Windows ME

Performance
After a few tweaks I got Unreal Gold to run at 14 FPS (minus 5-8 during slowdowns) on 512X384 res with medium environment and skins settings using the software renderer. lol I tried to run C&C Renegade on this too. After the hard drive gave up, I finished the rest of this PoS off with a baseball bat.

My Current one:

Manufacturer: IBM
512 (not enough) MB DDR RAM
Intel Pentium 4 HT (Initially registered as dual core Pentium 4 on Xfire upload. Wierd.) factory clocked at 3 GHz
256 MB Nvidia Geforce 6200 PCI card
Piece of crap soundcard
big enough HDD
Ubuntu 7.10/Windows XP

Performance:
while it can't handle GRAW (or Crysis! lol) this thing will usually get the job done. 25-40 FPS is all you need.

Whats wrong with stock cooling ? I was on 3.4Ghz stock cooling, tried 3.6Ghz but gave it a tad too much voltage and fried it. Now im back to my e6550 not much difference between Quad and Dual core imo.

It's just a memory hog thats about it. It has all these stupid ass security shit, and to run a exe file it ask you if you want to run it. OBVIOUSLY IF I CLICKED ON IT, I WANT TO RUN THE DAM THING....sigh.

So if you have 4GB of RAM, you are using 2GB of RAM to run Vista smooth. Not my cup of tea.

You can turn that prompt off so it doesn't bother you, also I've had Vista 64-bit for about a year now, The only issue I have at the moment is the fact that you can't install unsigned drivers, and the BIOS option to let you doesn't work... However it's better because it actually reads 4GB of memory unlike 32-bit which only reads up to 3.25 most of the time.

When you have anything over 4GB vista isn't even considered a memory hog because that is plenty of memory to run anything at this time.

Anyways, here are my specs.

Intel Q6600 @ 3.2GHZ
4GB OCZ Platinum 1066
ATI Radeon 4850 @ 710Core 1150Memory

My gaming "rig" is a laptop:

- HP DV9700T
- Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz)
- 4GB RAM
- Hitachi 320GB 7200RPM HD
- NVidia GeForce 8600M GS 512MB
- Vista Ultimate x64
- Belkin Nostromo pad & MSFT Sidewinder mouse

Can't go all-out on graphics. I mostly play UT3 and performance is decent when graphics are set to mid.

The laptop does get pretty hot but it seems to handle the gaming stress.

How did you get to 4.5 on that e8400? Is it on air?

And if you built sucha beast system why would you run 3GB... you know you lose dual channel that way right?

WTF do you need 8 gigs of DD** for?! :O

Some people just like saying "I have more than you".

One person I knew not long ago, wanted to get 16GB of memory, simply because his motherboard supported it (he already had 5GB). Never mind the cost implications and the fact that you wouldn't be able to see ANY difference

Only production systems running Vista should need 8GB of RAM - servers are allowed, provided it's not "I have more than you" again.

(my server has 8GB of RAM, and yes, it's needed)

You might want a better power supply, i suggest a 650w+

not really.

An Intel Quad-Core (not i7) overclocked to 4GHz and a ATi Radeon HD 5770 (Crossfire) do only need about 370w at full load.

But she is using a single-card and a cpu with less watt, so she should be fine, there is no need for a useless 650w+.

Only Triple-SLI or enthusiasm shit needs 600w+ :P

Anyways, here's a real post.

I think the PC is a bit overkill. I did the same thing about 1.5 yrs ago when I built my first PC (theres still threads with pics around here somewhere). Unless you don't plan on upgrading for another 3 years then it's probably fine. However, if you plan on upgrading ~ every year (like myself and many other technology enthusiasts) than I think you over killed.

anyways tho, nice comp.. you'll have fun with it :D

why did you go with xeon?

1337got
June 3rd, 2014, 07:14 PM
It's a Server CPU i know but it's like the i7 4770 which is more expensive here in germany. Performance and other shit are the same with the i7 4770.

I paid 200€ for the Xeon and the i7 costs about 250€. Why should i pay more if I can have the same performance with less money?

I dont overclock so it was a good choice. If I wanted to overclock i´d go with i7 4770K but like i said, i dont.
