Hi,

I recently heard that if you install and/or use a 'cracked' version of Windows XP professional or any other versions for this case, that Microsoft can track you down and force you to buy the legit version of the Windows or take legal action upon you?

Just wondering if you guys also heard such a thing? Is it true?

PS. This question was asked out of curiosity. The above does not represent my current system as being 'cracked'. A general question i need some replies upon.

thanks

I've heard about this too, but I never seen any concrete evidence that Microsoft actually did this.

If Microsoft really did this they would be paying millions and millions in legal fees to get these "piraters" to buy a legal edition of their software. The cost/profit ratio would be something like .00000X (where "X" represents some unknown value)

So to answer your question it wouldn't be worth it for micosoft to do this.

Exactly what Mo said, The cost to produce such actions would not make it worth making people purchasing legit copies.

As far as i know if you have a cracked version then you will not be able to update useing the microsoft updates, they can tell if you have a genuine os, but it's unlikely they will come after you :O
