Hi guys,

A quick idea of my setup

Quad Core Q6600 @ 3.8Ghz
Crossfire 5770
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate

A few tweaks I have used which have reduced the lag significantly, still see lag when the final kill on the server is replayed.

All changes made to config_mp.ini file found in the steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players folder.

seta r_multithreaded_device “1″ (Default is 0(Change this from 0 to 1 if you have a multi core CPU))
r_multiGpu "1" (Default is 1(Change this from 1 to 0 if you have a single GPU or leave as 1 if you are SLI or xFire)

These are also worth trying to help reduce lag in MP, I have not had to use these on my setup, I have only used the two above.

cg_brass "0"
r_blur_allowed "0"
r_cachemodellighting "1"
r_cacheSmodellighting "1"
r_distortion "0"
r_dof_enable "0"
r_glow_allowed "0"
r_specular - set this to "0"
r_gfxopt_dynamic_foliage "0"
r_glow_allowed "0"

Hope these help in reducing MP lag until a proper fix comes out from Treyarch.

Also you can try these...

Disabling Steam Cloud (right click the game in the Steam library -> properties -> updates -- uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud sync"

Ctrl-Alt-Delete once in game and change the BO process to HIGH priority.

As I said above I have only used the first two I have listed which has reduced the lag almost completely.

I hope this helps others.

Uhm, did you notice that there were 2 Patches which fixed the laggs? One Patch for the Servers and one for clients.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Multiplayer

Friends fix for join in progress and Friends tab in server browser
Performance improvement for dual and quad core systems

When ever I looked to see if the game had patched it stated nothing and I had implemented these before they had put out a fix...

Which had fixed it before any change to the game by Treyarch.

But if after their updates people are still getting lag these can be of use to them, as BO defaults multithreading to 0 when most of us have dual/quad core and it should be set to 1. Same with Multi GPU a lot only have one so it should be default 0 but it is not.

Just found it on their forum, but nothing was updated on Steam Update info last night...

LIVE FIXES

11/10
- GameServers.com has bumped sv_maxrate to 25000 across all servers to reduce lag.
- GameServers.com continues to improve official server distribution in various worldwide regions.

11/11
- Friends fix for join in progress and Friends tab in server browser.
- Performance improvement for dual and quad core.
- Improved connectivity with Black Ops Rcon tool.

IN PROGRESS

- GPU hitching on certain graphics cards.
- Incomplete server browser results.
- Improvements to Quickmatch joins (results with better ping and reduced lag).
- Zombies "The game session is no longer available" error.

Ye, I know, but none of those commands (Those multiGPU and CPU commands) fixed the laggs for me before there was that patch. Now I can play without any laggs, just like CoD4. :)

Ye, Steam only showed the client sided patch, as this is all they need to show, because they have nothing to do with the server configurations. It's always better to check the official sites of a game for the full changelogs. ;)

I don't even get why they set it up like this. I mean no one who has a singlecore CPU will have 2 or more GPU's. Could have been a mistake in the default config though and they mixed up the two commands and set the wrong one to 1/0.

True ;)

My game just hangs for like 2 minutes when in settings or when joining a server (doesn't matter either locally or remotely).
And I just can't find a fucking fix and yes I tried a lot lol.

Anyone doesn't accidentally know how to fix that right? I got a i7 860 @ 2.80GHz with 8 gig of memory and 2x Asus EAH (ATI HD) 5850 without using crossfire between the 2.

I have the same problem. I think a fix can only be done by Treyarch.

My specs: Core i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz, 6 gig and 1 Nvidia gtx 275 xD

these are just some tips maybe you have tryed them and maybe not ok first of have you treyd to check integrity of game chache on steam and a game defrag ? i do it always afetr a patch ;) if you have then close any background apps dont use gamebooster its the lazy mans way of closeing background apps ok in your search bar or for xp the run menu and type in MSCONFIG and hit enter go to services then tick down the bottom close all Microsoft applications first then disable everything that shouldn't be running :) it helps alot apart from that its all i got what i do know about black ops is that it has server issues bad that's why im waiting a month or two before purchase anyways i hope that helps a bit :)

Same here, but I also got it with loading a map, the hanging on settings seems to be gone though for whatever reason.
