The Godfather II is a 2009 video game based on The Godfather Part II, a
1974 crime drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by Mario Puzo. The game will be published by Electronic Arts and has been confirmed to be released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. This is also a sequel to The Godfather: The Game, which was also developed and published by EA in 2006. The development of the sequel was hinted at from as early as 2007, and EA officially revealed the game in August 2008.

Characters

Individuals

Michael Corleone: Head of the Corleone family. He is attempting to legitimize the family business.
Dominic: The main player character, tasked with expanding, and defending, Corleone operations in New York, Miami and Havana
Tom Hagen: Corleone consiglieri who offers counsel to Dominic.
Hyman Roth: A longtime associate of the Corleone family, however, he betrays them, allying himself with the Rosato brothers.
Pat Geary: A corrupt senator involved in a congressional investigation into organized crime. Preview footage suggests that Dominic is involved in the revenge plot against him.
Frank Pentangeli: Replaces Peter Clemenza as the Corleone caporegime after Clemenza's death. Seen to interact with Dominic in preview footage.
Tommy Cipolla: A henchman character who is exclusive to editions of the game pre-ordered from Wal-Mart, Amazon, EA, or Play.com
Henry Mitchell: Dominic's primary contact with the CIA, who instructs Dominic to carry out some assignments in Havana.
Families

Corleone Family: They have largely moved to Las Vegas, with Aldo Trapani as their proxy in New York, a role filled by Dominic after Trapani's death.
Rosato family: Brothers Anthony and Carmine Rosato have been making excursions into Corleone territory, which they claim Peter Clemenza promised them prior to his death. Carmine runs the family's New York branch, while Tony runs the Miami branch.
Mangano family: A prominent Sicilian crime family with crews operating in Queens and Miami.
Granados Family: A Cuban-American crime family with interests in Miami and Havana. Their family color is yellow, and some of them wear bulletproof vests.
Law Enforcement

Police: Much like the first game, "heat" can be managed by bribery.
CIA: Very close to their depiction in "shadow government" conspiracy theory lore, the player character occasionally does "favors" for them.
Cuban Military Police: Fidel Castro's troops are encountered in Havana, and are considerably harder to deal with than conventional police.
Setting

The Godfather II will take place in the late 1950s and early '60s over 3 cities: Havana, New York City, and Miami. Michael Corleone orders the player's character to take charge of the family after the death of Aldo Trapani, the first game's protagonist. Now as Dominic (who through ads appears more violent, cold, and arrogant in comparison to Aldo who almost had to overcome a moral dilemma when killing main characters in the game), the player leads the family to defeat other families and take control of various businesses and crime rings, in order to become the most powerful mobster in America.

Plot

Although "inspired by" the film, the game will deviate from the film's plot; for example, the flashbacks of Vito Corleone's early life in Sicily will not be featured. Many of the stars of the film will lend their likenesses and voices to the game; this includes Robert Duvall returning to voice Tom Hagen. However, Al Pacino again will not voice Michael Corleone and Coppola, the director of the film, is also reported to be uninvolved with the game's development.
