Can I run BF3 @ Ultra Settings, 4x FSAA with at least 50fps?

So yeah, getting a new pc for christmas, and I desperately would love to play BF3 on it.

Here are the specs (that I know so far):


GPU: Asus GTX 570 DirectCU II Edition @ 745MHz (looking to oc it to about 800-820)
HDD: 500GB Sata (not sure about rpm)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 + 2.4ghz (may oc to ~3.0GHz if stable)
Ram: As far as I know, the person building it for me has told me it has "basic 4gb ram". I may buy 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance modules clocked at 1600MHz, if it makes a difference.


Im basically wondering about bottlenecking on this too. Am I risking any micro-stutter, lag etc? Help would be appreciated.

I got nearly the same buildup (just +8GB G.E.I.L RAM) and I have to say that I can run it (Ultra, all maxed out!) with 30-60 fps (depends on situation, map, the terrainrendering etc.) ! Just in situations where some enemy's (about 5-10) come together it is starting to get a bit laggy, but thats because of our CPU...
When I bought my PC, my processor was on 3,2Ghz clocked, but after an BIOS Update every settings were lost and Iam not able to overclock my CPU at all from there on, but even with 2,4Ghz its running very good ;)!

Ahh nice. I forgot to say, but the resolution ill probably be running on is 1680x1050, and from your results what resolution did you run on?

P.s 1 570 will not run it ALL on ultra.

Pp.s running it @ ultra on 2560x1440 with 580 SLI easily (so i based my estimate of that, BTW EVERYTHING is MAX)
Pp.s Bottle necking, more than probably you should of got a i5 and branded ram :)

Ill probably get around an extra £70 after christmas, maybe £100. Is there anything I can do to speed it up from there? Like with the extra £100 after the pc is built with all those specs in the main thread post?

I think you should look into getting a better CPU than that. An i5 2500k would be a great investment if you plan to overclock.

From experience I have my gtx 460 running with an e8400 @3.8ghz for about a year and a half before I decided t upgrade to an i5. I couldn't believe the difference it had in games everything runs smoother and I can turn everything on max, no matter which game I throw at it.

I can run bf3 with everything (except aa/hbao) on ultra at 1920x1080.

my gtx 460 is the SC edition at core:839 memory:1950
and my i5 is oced to 4.2ghz

with a better CPU and a bit of careful overclocking you should be fine to turn the settings up!

You seem to think you can judge all my settings by a lower GPU... im asking about a 570 with a q6600, not a gtx 460. It isnt hard

PS: If I was to buy a new processor, it may cost me nearly £200 all in just to rebuild my system with it, obviously cause I will need a new mobo to fit the i5

This is not something I can just replace, so I want to be sure of what i'm getting. A 570 is a bit of a big jump from a 460, and I am really needing the facts from people running on that exact system (specifically just the processor and the gpu.)

Battlefield 3 just needs a good CPU/GPU, thats all. For me on my Q6600@2,4Ghz and a GTX570 its running on Ultra, it is just lagging if a huge amount of explosion and enemys come together which my CPU cant handle, also my GTX570 gets stopped by my slow CPU, but the graphicscard is really enough, trust me ;)!

It will be enough to play the game on ultra, wether you'll find it playable is another question completely, I think that you're pushing your luck hoping for 45fps on ultra.
However I agree with soulstar, the q6600 is old and there are a lot more powerful CPUs out.

I dont have a set budget, it is my christmas present (the full pc)

However, I could be getting extra money after christmas, within the £50-100 range, so any ideas?

Edit:

Judging by the following video, he runs on an OC'ed q6600 @ 3.6ghz, on a single 470. To compare that with like a 3ghz on a 570 DirectCUII card, could I run this game better than in this video, same settings and all?

You would mainly need to upgrade your CPU, but this would also need a new mainboard and 100 pounds wont be enough

Hmm, Im not sure. The game does mainly profit from a fast GPU, but still the CPU is important. I dont think that it will make you happy

Its actually GPU limited. So the CPU is less important, but that only applies for current CPUs. Im not sure if the q6600 might still cause some fps drops.

You also cant switch the usage of GPU and CPU or whatever. The game decides what it nees to use ;D

If you did order, it is not worth spending more money to upgrade the mobo or the cpu, as the one you picked is two generations behind (even if it quadcore) and replacing it with good shit would be 200+. I can say that even my PC with a 920 at 3.8ghz and a 5970 cannot run the game at ultra and keep stable FPS, it does spike real low under certain situations. Now running it all on High is another story :P. As for that PC it might be able to run it all on High and maybe ultra (due to resolution).

I see. So I wont be drastically disappointed then? Bottom line is, I will be overclocking both the card and the processor. I also hear this certain card can be overclocked to match GTX 580 clocks, if it makes a difference.

Another thing I'm now considering is maybe just running a few settings on ultra, the rest on high (or maybe all on high) and upgrading to the 64bit version of windows 7 ultimate. I got this idea from the following video of a guy on a system like mine (he's running at stock settings on his q6600 and also has a lower end card, so i would expect better performance from mine):
