View Full Version : Game freezing after 5-10 minutes of play

So yeah, got my new system today. It actually runs really, suprisingly well on my stock q6600 and gtx 570. I get a nice 40-60 fps with texture resolution on ultra, the rest on high, so I wont be overclocking this unless I really need to :)

However, after installing BF3, I ran the game, everything started up smoothly. I got not even halfway through the first mission when everything simply froze, no error message. I minimized out, however, to see that it was a DirectX problem or something to that effect. It said my GPU driver had crashed, so I then downloaded the latest driver for my card, I believe it's the 285.62 driver. Noticeably, I managed to play the game a bit longer than the previous drivers, until it crashed again, this time with nothing but the good old "bf3.exe has stopped working" bla bla bla. I haven't ran any hacks with this game yet, nor have I overclocked anything on my rig (I attempted to overclock my card using MSI afterburner, that of which seems to do nothing to the performance at all, at least to my eyes, so I just reset it back to the stock.) Also when the card is idle the temps stay at around 30 degrees, never seen it above 40.

My operating system is the 32bit version of windows 7 ultimate, and I have 4GB DD** ram

Not really related to us,

but try to install the latest Betadrivers (GPU), update all other drivers too and install the latest Origin too.

Thanks for the info, I will give that a shot. The reason i'm posting this here is simply because the forums are almost always active and the staff are always very helpful :)

EDIT: After everything you said, it started to run perfectly smooth, 1 minute in started to stutter a little, played smooth again then simply just froze. This is the error message report that I got from it:

Can you post a complete bcdedit screenshot?

Sorry for the long wait, here is the bcdedit screenshot:

Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it :)

Not that what I thought, but try this command as admin:

bcdedit.exe /debug {current} off

Restart after it.Not sure if this is helping, because the debug isn't listed there. This helps if the PC gets a blue screen while using the xClient.

I see. Before I do this though, what does this command change? I just want to be safe, you might know yourself how it is getting shiny new stuff and being all protective about it :P

Yea np.

The debug mode can prevent the xClient to work, if this mode is set to on the xClient can crash the OS.

If you flag it as off, there shouldn't be any problems. But your system isn't working now, why you should care? :D

Ahh but I said this happens without running the xClient anyway. Regardless, I'll give it a shot

Ups, not seen that. Then try to contact the EA support too, they should be able to help.

Np, I will contact them if it doesn't work after repairing my installation

As he said this isn't even cheat related. I have had such a issue in the past. Typically it is windows aero that causes problems. Turn it off, and do a driver swipe regarding your graphics drivers and reinstall them anew completely with no leftovers.

Can you write me please how do you fixed the problem exactly and which Hardware do you have?
Thanks alot.

Maybe you need to update your video driver. (Sr for dumb ansver but i think this can help you).

I will try this now and update this thread if I still get the problem. So far, a member of the EA technical support has told me to turn off anti-aliasing, vsync (which I already had off) and run in windowed mode, all which has had no effect. After that, I set the affinity to only use two cores, which was very laggy. I then set the affinity to only 3 cores (specifically core 0, 1 and 3) which worked ok, minor stutter here and there. This seemed to resolve the problem, nothing crashed and I could play a full game of battlefield 3, even while using x22. (which I just turned on because an opponent was also hacking lol.)

I would however prefer that my system allowed it to use all 4 cores.

Edit: This didn't work, I ran in windowed mode, had windows basic on and even tried the previously successful triple core setup. I still got the exact same crash, same error code and all. I really hope this is some simple error that either I have overlooked or one nvidia is currently working on. Also, today I overclocked my processor to 3GHz, I see a significant boost in performance in BF3 however it still crashes around a minute in. I have also noticed that this tends to happen "faster" when playing operation metro, along with some objects and foliage in the distance having this subtle flickering effect when zooming in on them .

PS: Is there anyway to disable DX11 enhancements/use DX10 in this game, or are they automatically off?

I have already tried this, it hasn't worked

I can't believe it. After all this trial and error, it was apparent that all I had to do was uninstall my old keyboards drivers, namely the "Razer Tarantula" (if you are also having this problem with BF3, removing previous mouse drivers might do the trick as well). However, a few other things were also involved in getting this game to work, I have specifically listed everything I done before retrying BF3, even anything that would be less likely to resolve the problem:

First, I used driver sweeper to clear up my display drivers from my old ATI card, which beforehand didn't seem to uninstall correctly. Next, I noticed I had a few problems with bad company 2 (I reverted to BC2 simply because BF3 was not working at the time), bluescreening with the well-known "stop 0x124" error code. After restarting my computer as requested by the bluescreen, I entered the BIOS and downclocked my recent 3.0GHz overclock (on my Q6600) to 2.8GHz (2.79 to be specific). I haven't retried bad company 2 since then simply because I didn't think it was going to work, so retrying BC2 escaped my mind. I was finally at my wits end here and decided to try my hardest at getting BF3 to work (it's hard to see 15Gb being taken up on my hard drive without it being used). First, I ran an sfc /scannow in command prompt to restore any corrupt windows files (required me to reactivate windows 7, but that all went smoothly). After that, I uninstalled my razer tarantula drivers via the control panel then rebooted my pc. When I reactivated windows 7 after that reboot by simply re-entering my cd-key, I done a few things with nvidia control panel, changing a few settings and here is what I ended up with:

Screenshot 1 (http://screensnapr.com/e/DrfjFT.png)
Screenshot 2 (http://screensnapr.com/e/OKUR88.png)

Then, hoping for the best, I ran BF3. Greeted by the battlelog homepage, I went to browse for a server and clicked join. Now, before the actual BF3.exe started, I opened task manager and set Origin.exe's affinity to use cpu 0 and 1. When BF3 finally loaded, I was able to play the game very smoothly. Anticipating a crash, I was playing without really trying. Gradually noticing I was playing the round for over 10 minutes, however, I started to play properly. I managed to play the full game, and another one after it, completing both. I was very pleased with myself :)

I hope to get this out to everyone out there who is likely to have this problem, and even more so I hope it helps you!

PS: I thank the staff members helping me for being patient, it's much appreciated.

I had the same Problem,
I reinsalled my Nvidia drivers, set the space for Origin to 0 and 1, and the space for bf3.exe to 0,1,2,3.
And it works perfekt!
